AAP offshoot to enter poll fray in Punjab

Punjab is likely to witness a quadrilateral fight between political parties in 2017 Assembly polls as the Swaraj Abhiyan  ‘a split section of Aam Aadmi Party’ has announced that it will contest the Assembly polls in the State.

National General Secretary of Swaraj Abhiyan, Ajit Jha while addressing a press conference in Chandigarh on Sunday said that Swaraj Abhiyan will definitely form a political party before the Punjab elections and will contest the polls.

Jha said that the process of establishing a political outfit was on since the start of the Abhiyan but the leaders of the Abhiyan do not want to go through the experience of Aam Aadmi Party.

The Swaraj Abhiyan will continue its reformative activities and the political outfit will not be given the same nomenclature, said he.

He said that before launching the political outfit, Swaraj Abhiyan leaders wanted to set the standards of democracy for the future political outfits.

Accusing Congress and Aam Aadmi Party of leaving their supporters in the lurch by not contesting the Khadoor Sahib by-election, he said that both the so called contenders of state rule parties have broken the trust of their supporters by running away from the poll battle.

The Swaraj Abhiyan has from the first day announced to support Bhai Baldeep Singh, despite they know that contesting a by-election at this budding stage would be a big risk, added Jha.

Elaborating on the issue, Prof. Manjeet Singh, convener of Swaraj Abhiyan said that a win or lose does not matter much, but to start a process of reforms, you have to be ready for early defeats. He said that now Congress and AAP have left the people of assembly with no option but to fall a prey to the ruling party’s pressure tactics.
