Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Sunam Aman Arora on Wednesday urged Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh to fulfil his promise by releasing Rs 2.28 crore funds for the construction of Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial at Sunam.
Arora, in his letter to the Chief Minister, said that as Shaheed Udham Singh had sacrificed his life for the country, “his sacrifice should be respected by the Government now and a memorial be built immediately as a mark of homage. It is the third time that martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh is approaching since the formation of Congress Government in the State but every time, the Ministers and Chief Minister himself has just done lip service by making mere announcements time and again of release of funds for the memorial,” said Arora adding that it is painful that no work has started on the memorial site despite repeated announcements.
Arora cautioned the State Government that if it fails to start the construction of the memorial before July 31, the Chief Minister or any other Minister ceases the right to pay homage to the martyr and should desist themselves from making further false announcements and rub salt on the wounds of lakhs of admirers of Shaheed Udham Singh.
