Notwithstanding the high alert in the holy city days after grenade blast, Aam Aadmi Party’s former district president Suresh Sharma on Tuesday suffered serious bullet injuries after an unidentified person fired gunshots on him — enough to lay bare the security lapses.
The incident took place around 6:30 pm when Sharma was sitting at his shop in Chheharta main market, and a youngster came and fired four bullets on him, and fled. Out of the four, three hit Sharma’s lower body portion, leaving him seriously injured.
Sharma was rushed to a private hospital. Family members maintained that his condition is stable. Police sources stated that it has been collecting the CCTV footage from Sharma’s shop and nearby commercial establishments.
Sharma, an active RTI activist and known for raising issues of alleged embezzlements in the various governments departments, had recently resigned from the post of AAP district president after the party removed Sukhpal Singh Khaira as its Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha.
