To begin the selection process of candidates for Assembly polls in Punjab, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday announced setting up of two committees that will scrutinise the credentials of the aspirants and forward the recommendation to the Political Affairs Committee of the party for final selection of the candidates.

AAP leader and in-charge of Punjab Affairs Sanjay Singh made this announcement while addressing a press conference in Chandigarh on Sunday. First the 16 members Campaign Committee will deal with the application of the aspirants and forward names to the Screening Committee.

AAP MPs Bhagwant Mann and Sadhu Singh, AAP convener Suchha Singh Chhotepur, Punjab In-charge Sanjay Singh, AAP Farmer wing President Gurbinder Singh Kang, Sukhpal Singh Khehra, Gurpreet Ghuggi etc. are members of the committee.

The names selected by the campaign committee will be forwarded to Screening Committee, which will forward five names to the PAC for final selection.

Talking about the announcement of the candidates, Sanjay Singh said that the first list of AAP was expected to come out in the first half of May and all the candidates of the party would be declared by June, 2016.

AAP MP Bhagwant Mann said that the announcement of the candidates would be made quite early but if any complaint emerges against any declared candidate then his name would be withdrawn and party will make no compromise on the issue of corruption and character of the candidate.

Continuing with its aggressive stance on the Satluj Yamuna link canal, Sanjay Singh said that Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal have been scoring their political goals on the issue of waters for long.

He said that both the parties have been in the genesis of this dispute and Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should ask Prime Minister Narendra Modi to clear his stand on the issue.

Sanjay Singh said that SAD was supporting the Central government, which was taking an anti-Punjab stand on the SYl issue in Supreme Court.

He said that SAD should first withdraw its support from the BJP government and then should talk on the issue.

Taking on SAD on the issue of demolition of water kiosk in Gurdwara Sis Ganj, Sanjay Singh said that the demolition drive had nothing to do with Delhi Government and the drive was carried out by Delhi Municipal Corporation under the security provided by Delhi police. He said that SAD should question BJP on the issue of demolition.

Sanjay Singh also dared Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi to clear his stand on the issue of SYl and said, his silence on the issue speaks volumes of the truth of Congress. Admitting the error in filing of the affidavit in Supreme Court, Sanjay Singh said that Delhi Government will soon file its fresh opinion on the matter in the court.
