Nipping in the bud the rebellious voice within party’s Punjab unit, the Aam Aadmi Party has shown the door to its State Disciplinary Committee head and senior party leader Dr Daljit Singh on Thursday.
Taking a swift decision, the party’s National Disciplinary Committee decided to expel the State executive member days after he was issued show-cause notice on Sunday for “not acting as per the party’s constitution” and for openly expressing his reservations over the restructuring of the Punjab unit last week.
Responding to the notice the next day, he denied all the charges. Sources said that the members of the National Disciplinary Committee have gone through Dr Daljit’s response, and after carefully considering the responses, it came to the unanimous conclusion that he was “guilty of gross indiscipline and anti-party activities”.
It is believed that the Committee has unanimously decided to expel Dr Daljit from the party from immediate effect.
Dr Daljit, a prominent eye surgeon of Amritsar who had unsuccessfully contested the lok Sabha elections from Amritsar against Capt Amarinder Singh, had made a statement last week that party spokesperson and Punjab affairs in-charge Sanjay Singh and the party’s state convener Sucha Singh Chottepur were out to destroy the AAP in the State.
His statement came after at least two of the four MPs had raised their voice against Sanjay Singh who had later asked them to submit their report card as MPs of their past one year’s work.
Reacting after his expulsion, Dr Daljit reiterated his statement that Sanjay Singh and Sucha Singh Chottepur would damage the party. An eye-surgeon turned politician said that he was removed from party but wouldn’t join any other political outfit, and would ask his workers to continue their work with the party.
“My only fault is that I always desired strict discipline within the party in Punjab but some leaders are not happy and conveyed resentment to the senior party leaders at Delhi where my expulsion is decided,” he said.
