Registering a massive spike in the number of coronavirus cases on Sunday with a large number of infections reported among health department employees, Ropar’s tally has reached 55. The district had, at one point of time, shed the tag of corona affected.

Ropar Deputy Commissioner Sonali Giri told The Pioneer, “Out of 46 reported positive today in district, 34 are from Ropar, three from Chandigarh, seven from Mohali, and two from Patiala. Out of 34 from Ropar, six are health care workers and 28 others form flu corners and other random sampling.”

Giri clarified that the district now has total 52 active cases, of which 49 are sampled in Ropar and three are in other districts currently.

Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said: “Seven positive cases are reported today evening in Mohali district. Four are male while three are female patients, and all are working at Civil Hospital Ropar and residing in Mohali district in Kharar, Kurali and Mohali city.”

With this, the total positive cases in Mohali have reached 105, with 48 active cases and three deaths. Total 54 patients have been recovered from the deadly virus.

The positive cases reported from Moga, Amritsar, and Kapurthala were that of pilgrims who returned from Gurdwara Hazur Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra earlier this month.

Of Fatehgarh Sahib’s eight new COVID-19 cases, five were combine workers, two were contacts of previously diagnosed cases and one was a new case, said the daily health bulletin.

Besides, more cases were reported from the state later in the evening, which are yet to be added in the state’s official figures.

Mansa reported 12 new cases — including four policemen, five labourers and three students. Ropar, which reported maximum cases, has received reported of another 11 testing positive.

Two policemen from Jalandhar have also tested positive, including — a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a Constable. As per available information, both have been kept at an isolation centre at PTU in Kapurthala after their return from Nanded, where they had gone to bring back pilgrims.
