Five Haryana Police personnel, who were part of the Z plus security provided to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Singh, were charged with sedition charges and have been dismissed by Haryana Government.

Sedition and attempt to murder charges were slapped against seven people, including five Haryana police personnel, in charge of the Dera chief’s security when he had arrived at Panchkula to appear in a CBI court on August 25.

These police personnel along with dera chief’s private security guards had allegedly tried to free him after the special CBI court had convicted him in a 15-year-old rape case.

All five police personnel have been dismissed. The arrested police personnel were in the ranks of sub-inspector, head constable and constable, said a police official.

Notably, Haryana Inspector General of Police (IGP) KK Rao had claimed that Haryana police managed to whisk away dera chief after his conviction, thwarting an alleged bid by his security men to free him.

Rao had claimed  as soon as the self-styled godman was convicted, he had demanded a ‘red bag’ that he had brought along from Sirsa. This was actually a signal for his men to spread the news of his conviction among supporters to cause disturbance in the area. However, the police sensed the situation and took his guards into custody, Rao had said.
