A 23-year-old girl was killed while her brother injured in a hit-and-run incident. The scooter which they were riding was hit by a rashly driven car near Sukhna lake on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Preety, a native of district Gurdaspur, Punjab. She came to Chandigarh recently for a job and was living here at Kishangarh, said Mini Bhardwaj, In-charge, police post of Sukhna lake. The incident took place in the afternoon when Preety along with her brother, Vijay Kumar, was on the way to her office. “I was going to drop my cousin sister to her office on my two-wheeler when a car hit my vehicle from behind and left us badly injured at the back side of Sukhna lake,” said Vijay, brother of deceased.
The onlookers rushed to their rescue and also informed local police. A commuter rushed them to the PGIMER, in his vehicle, where Preety was declared as brought dead while the condition of Vijay is stable, added Mini Bhardwaj. Eye witnesses managed to note down registration number of the vehicle, which hit the victims. The vehicle was having a Chandigarh registration number. Police is trying to identify owner of the vehicle and a case has been registered at police post, Sukhna lake.
