Chandigarh General Post office (GPO) on Monday became the first GPO to offer Core Bank Solutions (CBS) in the region.
The first Core Banking Solutions (CBS) post office in Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh was inaugurated by Kulbir Singh, Chief Postmaster General, Punjab and UT Chandigarh.
With CBS, customers at Chandigarh GPO will get all the facilities including instant transfer of accounts/ certificates from CBS to CBS post office and automatic posting of interest at the end of the month.
Speaking on the occasion, Kulbir Singh, CPMG, said that an ATM would be installed at Chandigarh GPO shortly and debit cards would be available to the customers.
Internet Banking and Mobile Banking would also become available to the customers. Intimation of balance and transactions would be given to the customers through SMS.
Kulbir Singh informed that Chandigarh GPO is the first post office from the non-pilot circles and the first post office from Punjab & UT to be shifted to CBS pattern. Before this 314 post offices in the country had been migrated from 8 pilot circles only, i.e. U.P, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. CBS is a part of the prestigious IT Modernisation Project of the Department of Posts.
The first transaction under CBS in Chandigarh GPO (general post office) was made by Manisha Bansal Badal, Director Postal Services (HQ) Punjab and UT Chandigarh.
