In Haryana, eleven per cent of food samples lifted last year were found to be either adulterated, misbranded or sub-standard, triggering concern in the people.Haryana Health Minister, Anil Vij on Monday said that  out of 2515 samples of food items collected by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) during last year, 286 samples failed and were found to be adulterated, misbranded and sub-standard.

Besides this, 74 samples of intoxicants; supari, gutka and pan masala were collected by the FDA in the last few months. Out of these, only two samples were found adulterated and misbranded. The department has also initiated legal action against them. The minister said that 14,413 Food Business Operators were registered for providing pure and nutritious food products  and 6,784 shopkeepers were issued food licenses during the year 2015-16, in the state. The FDA had registered 9,103 Food Business Operators online, whereas 5,310 Food Business Operators were registered individually as they could not avail of the online facility. Also, online licenses  were issued to 4,761 shopkeepers, whereas 2,023 shopkeepers were provided licenses manually.
