Remember the school punishment where you had to cross your arms, hold your earlobes and squat… The students in schools of Haryana will now be seen doing this on a daily basis but not as a punishment but as a yoga routine to improve the functioning of brain.
The Board of School Education, Haryana has proposed to introduce ‘super brain yoga’ asana in schools. For this, the Board will soon send a proposal to the Department of School Education, Haryana.
Dr Jagbir Singh, chairman of BSEH on Thursday said that initially, the students of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Lab School, Bhiwani will begin performing ‘super brain yoga’, an asana to boost mental power.
After the successful implementation there, the same yoga routine will be done by the students in other schools. We will send a proposal in this regard to the Department of School Education, he said, while talking to the mediapersons in Bhiwani.
‘Super brain yoga’ asana involves touching the ears and doing squats.
Dr Jagbir on Thursday apprised the teachers of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Lab School, about the ‘super brain yoga’ and its benefits. He directed the school authorities to start this yoga exercise after the school opens on July 8.
“Our country has a culture of Yoga, Sanskar and Yagna,” he said while highlighting the benefits of yoga.
The BSEH officials claimed that this yoga technique has its roots in ancient Indian practices and even scientists and western world has accepted the power of yoga and this technique for improving brain functioning.
The proposal, meanwhile, has stirred a row in Haryana with some appreciating the move while others terming it as an unwarranted decision.
When asked to comment over the proposal, CM Manohar Lal refused to respond on the issue during a press conference.
In the past, the Haryana Government’s announcements like inclusion of shlokas of Bhagwad Gita in school curriculum and making yoga compulsory in all schools of the state had drawn severe criticism from various segments as both decisions were seen to have religious overtones.
