Mumbai: Trent Ltd, the Tata Group’s retail arm, on Thursday reported a 25 per cent year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 468 crore for the September quarter, as revenue growth and operating leverage supported earnings amid an inflationary environment.

The consolidated profit was Rs 468.09 crore against Rs 373.42 crore in the same quarter last year. Consolidated revenue from operations rose 22 per cent to Rs 5,873 crore, while operating EBITDA increased 37 per cent to Rs 785 crore. For the first half of FY27, consolidated revenue grew 20 per cent to Rs 11,628 crore, net profit rose 24 per cent to Rs 986 crore and operating EBITDA increased 35 per cent to Rs 1,633 crore.

On a standalone basis, revenue from operations climbed 23 per cent to Rs 5,788 crore and operating EBITDA rose 37 per cent to Rs 791 crore, while profit after tax grew 9 per cent to Rs 490 crore. The company said the slower growth in standalone profit partly reflects a higher base in the year-earlier period, which included a pre-tax profit on asset sales of Rs 96 crore in Q2 FY26 and Rs 109 crore in H1 FY26, with no material corresponding gains this year. Operating EBIT margin improved to 11.6 per cent from 10.5 per cent a year earlier.

The company opened its 1,000th Zudio store during the quarter. As of September 30, its portfolio comprised 999 Zudio stores, including seven in the UAE, 311 Westside stores and 32 outlets in other lifestyle concepts. In the quarter it opened 19 Zudio stores and 10 Westside stores and consolidated two Zudio outlets. Its fashion retail footprint exceeded 18.5 million square feet across 339 cities, including three in the UAE. Trent said the reception in tier-two and tier-three locations had encouraged further expansion into smaller cities and hinterland markets.

Emerging categories, including beauty and personal care, innerwear and footwear, contributed more than 21 per cent of standalone revenue. Westside’s online revenue grew 20 per cent in the first half of FY27 and accounted for more than 6 per cent of its revenue. The Star food and grocery business reported revenue growth of more than 20 per cent in the quarter, adding one store to take its network to 87 outlets across 13 cities. Own-brand products made up more than 74 per cent of Star’s revenue.

Chairman Noel N Tata said the company’s brands saw solid traction and that consumer sentiment was more robust despite the relatively inflationary backdrop. He added that as he concludes his tenure as chairman, he is delighted with the strides the company has made and believes its best days lie ahead.

Tata announced at Trent’s 47th annual general meeting on June 23 that it would be his last as chairman, in line with Tata Group governance guidelines under which non-executive directors retire at 70. He turns 70 in November. He joined the Trent board in 1998 and became its first managing director in June 1999.
