Bilaspur (HP), Oct 22 (PTI) Authorities in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, have reduced the sugar inventory limit for traders by 50 per cent -- lowering it from 2,000 quintals to 1,000 quintals -- to curb hoarding amid the festive rush.

Sheetal Sharma, District Controller, Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Bilaspur, said the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution has issued new guidelines amending the sugar stock limit across the country.

The revised provisions took effect on October 15, 2026.

Officials instructed all wholesale traders operating in the district to comply with these orders.

Under the new orders, traders can now stock a maximum of 1,000 quintals of sugar, down from the previous limit of 2,000 quintals, aiming to maintain adequate sugar availability in the market, prevent hoarding, and monitor storage beyond the prescribed limit.

Sharma said officials instructed all sugar dealers, traders, and wholesalers in the district to regularly update their sugar stock details on the Food Stock Monitoring Portal, https://foodstock.dfpd.gov.in/, in accordance with the prescribed guidelines.

Officials asked traders who have not yet registered on the portal to do so as soon as possible and ensure regular stock-related updates.

Regular stock details on the portal will ensure that the department receives information on sugar availability in the market and enable effective monitoring of overstocking.

Furthermore, department inspectors have been instructed to conduct surprise inspections to ensure compliance with the prescribed guidelines.
