Sensex gets marginal gains amid volatility

PNS

Amid a very volatile session, the benchmark Sensex managed to rise by 40 points on Tuesday to 20,890.82. Sensex rose near to its two- week high as it gained for the third consecutive day on back of heavy buying from foreign institutional investors (FII).

Experts said that the market remained choppy as on one hand FIIs were buying and on the other hand the domestic institutional investors (DII) booked profits. Rupee appreciation also helped in retaining an overall positive sentiment in the equity markets, experts further added.

As per the provisional data provided by the stock exchanges, FIIs bought shares worth Rs 1,014.61 crore while Rs 726.55 crore stocks were sold by DIIs. Similarly like the stock markets, rupee also saw a volatile session but managed to close with gains of 5 paise at Rs 62.36 per dollar.
