Over one lakh people have registered under ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ to install rooftop solar systems, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Wednesday.

Gupta was speaking at the Solar Plenary Session of the Bharat Renewable Energy Summit and Expo at Bharat Mandapam.

“Every rooftop will become a source of solar energy. Delhi government is committed to taking the capital towards green energy. Over one lakh registrations reflect growing public confidence in solar energy,” the chief minister said, adding that the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ is an important initiative towards achieving energy self-reliance.

“Taking this vision forward, the Delhi government is encouraging people to install rooftop solar systems. Rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW are being installed free of cost in Delhi, while subsidies of up to `1.56 lakh are being provided for systems with higher capacity,” she said.

The Chief Minister said the government’s aim is to make every rooftop in the capital a source of clean energy, provide relief on every household’s electricity bill, and make Delhi an example for the rest of the country in solar energy. The entire world is moving forward in this field by working together. The Delhi government is making continuous efforts to expand clean energy and promote energy self-reliance, she added.

In September this year, the chief minister launched the ‘Delhi PM Surya Ghar’ scheme, under which the Centre provides a subsidy of up to `78,000 for rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kW. The Delhi government has also decided to provide a state subsidy of `78,000 along the same lines.
