After quitting the Congress party two weeks ago, Ajit Jogi, former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh has finally formed his own regional political party named ‘Chhattisgarh Janata Congress (Jogi). Claiming to be the true beacon of the Congress ideology, he has vowed to work for the people of the state. Interestingly, he has launched the new party in the Kabirdham district, which is the home turf of the current Chief Minister Raman Singh. Jogi, a former Congress veteran has offered to make his political outfit an alternative platform to the two national parties in the state-BJP and Congress. Accusing both the national parties for taking decisions in Delhi for the people of Chhattisgarh, he has made it clear that it is time now to decide the local affairs right here in the state itself.
Jogi, being the first CM of the state had brought the party to the state but unfortunately his political journey did not last long. After hibernating for nearly 13 years, Jogi is now throwing open a challenge to the state unit of the Congress and promising to put an end to the Raman Singh regime in the state. However, unfortunately Jogi has been always branded as a ‘spoiler’ for the party in the state. But sensing his vast influence over the backward and other backward sections of the state, his calculated political move may dampen the remaining hope of the grand old party in Chhattisgarh. Jogi has a strong arithmetical understanding of nearly 90 constituencies in the state and particularly districts like Bilaspur, Raigarh and Jagdalpur wherein BJP has minimal presence may help him carving out a significant pool of votes for his new party in the upcoming Assembly election in the state.
