The Baleswar Sadar police on Saturday nabbed a 25-year-old youth from Baripada town on the charge of making ransom calls to a hotel owner here.
The accused, identified as Sujit Sarkar was later forwarded to court. Police apprehended Sarkar from his residence after tracking his phone.
Sources said Sarkar, impersonating as Jajan, a history sheeter, had made several calls on January 8 to the owner of Zaika International Hotel here, and asked him to pay Rs 15 lakh as ransom or else he would blow off his hotel.
Following the incident, the owner of the company had lodged an FIR with the Sadar police. The cops after tracking the phone number traced the culprit and apprehended him.
It may be recalled the district police on July 16, 2018 had arrested three accused persons including the main accused Jajan Panigrahi and a minor in connection with a firing incident here on July 7 .
These goons had opened fire on the Zaika International Hotel at OT Road after demanding Rs 15 lakh extortion.
