The G Udaygiri police in Kandhamal district have arrested a person on the charges of raping a minor girl after abducting her on May 18 on pretext of providing her a job.
The accused, identified as Santosh Digal (31), was arrested from Adasikupa village under the G Udayagiri police station.
According to reports, two youth on a motorcycle spotted the victim, who was standing alone at roadside at Dakedi village. They engaged her in conversation and assured her to provide a job.
Later, the duo took her to Damiguda village where they raped her in an under construction house at night.
Later, after three days they shifted the girl to another location at Kalinga village from where the victim managed to escape from their clutches and informed her family about the incident.
Based on a complaint by the victim’s family, the G udaygiri police registered a case and raided various locations and apprehended Santosh.
Following medical examination of the victim, the accused was booked under Sections 363, 366, 376(2)(n) and 506 r/w 34 of the IPC and POCSO Act. The accused was forwarded to a designated POCSO court in Phulbani, police said.
