A broad daylight murder of a youth by unidentified miscreants triggered a volatile situation at Khadal Sahi under the Kodala police station in Ganjam district on Sunday.
As per reports, the miscreants chased and allegedly attacked one Kalu Nahak with sharp weapons when he was returning home from a shop in the locality.Nahak died on the spot while another youth, who tried to save him from the attackers, sustained critical injuries in the attack. He was admitted to a hospital and his condition was stated to be critical.
Though the exact motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, it was suspected that Nahak was killed over some old enmity.Following incident, in retaliation some locals set of accused persons on fire. The mob also staged a demonstration by blocking the main road in the area. High tension prevailed in the area and police forces were deployed in large numbers to prevent the situation from worsening further. Further investigation into the incident was underway. Police said all the accused have been detained and their interrogation was on. A close watch was being kept on the situation by senior officials.
