Tension prevailed at Gochhamil under the Sorada police station of Ganjam district after dead body of a youth was recovered from an abandoned well under mysterious circumstance on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Benudhar Mallick of Balapanka village. Although the exact reason behind death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that the youth was murdered and then his body was dumped in the well.
The matter came to fore after some locals spotted a body lying inside the well on morning and informed the police. On receiving information, the Sorada police reached the spot, recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Sources said Mallick left his home and went to a nearby shop for snacks on Tuesday evening where he had a scuffle with some miscreants. When he did not return, his family members searched for him frantically and later filed a missing complaint.
Family members of the youth alleged that Mallick was killed and his body was thrown in the well. Basing on the complaint police initiated an investigation and further probe into the incident is on.
