Young Bargarh farmer commits suicide

PNS

A 27-year-old farmer of Podamunda village in Bargarh district committed suicide being distressed over crop loss. He was identified as Baishanav Bhue.

Bhue consumed pesticide and was rushed to the Bargarh District Headquarters Hospital where he died.

Bhue cultivated vegetables in a half acre of land and cultivated paddy in 3.5 acre. But due to scanty rainfall, the paddy cultivation got totally damaged and he was forced to commit suicide, family sources said.

His father Minaketan said Baishnav had borrowed Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for purchasing fertilisers and pesticides. At the same time he had taken loan from other private sources. But when he saw the crop loss at the beginning of the season, he lost all hope and committed suicide.

But Bargarh district Collector Indramani Tripathy said that the suicide has no connection with crop failure. “There is some other reason behind his suicide,” Tripathy said.

Recently, the marriage ceremony of his brother was performed and the family has no such financial burden, he added.

He further said an inquiry has been initiated and the report would reveal the truth.

Police have registered an unnatural death (UD) case and the body has been handed over the family after postmortem.
