The World Fisheries Day was observed here on Sunday at the District Fisheries Office showcasing various achievements of the department.
The meeting was participated by fisheries officials, fish farmers, prawn cultivators, technicians of the shrimp hatcheries, entrepreneurs and fishermen.
Prominent among the guests were Deputy Director of Fisheries (Ganjam Zone) Hemanta Kumar Dash, Chief District Veterinary Officer Dr Debraj Behera, District Fisheries Officer Niamin Charan Bastia, Additional Fisheries Officer Shariff Ahmed and Coastal Aquaculture Authority (CAA) Chennai representative Dr T Veeramani.
As the day is observed every year to look at the fishing industry’s sustainability and focus on maintaining the balance in ecosystem, there is a need to create awareness among all stakeholders.
