Tension mounted in Bhushan Steel ltd’s Meramundali unit in Dhenkanal district as workers staged a dharna in the factory premises demanding compensation for a worker killed and another critically injured in a mishap in the plant premises on Saturday, besides safe working conditions in the factory.
Both the killed and injured workers are from Jharkhand. The injured worker was admitted to District Headquarters Hospital.
The mishap took place at Coke Oven-I of the plant at around 10.30 am when a vehicle hit the two workers killing one on the spot. The deceased was identified as Samanta Soren of Giridih district in Jharkhand. Soren worked as a foreman in the plant.
