Women's body demands justice for Sandhyarani

PNS

Members of the State Progressive Women’s Forum (SPWF) staged a rally in front of the State Assembly here on Saturday demanding justice for deceased Sandhyarani Samantaray, who had divulged details of flesh trade in the city to the Commissionerate Police. They also handed over a memorandum to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik demanding immediate action against the culprits involved in the murder.

Hundreds of supporters and members of the SPWF came in a procession from the Master Canteen Square to the lower PMG with placards bearing slogans against the State Government’s inaction in providing justice to the deceased. “Sandhyarani was killed in a planned way by some influential people including senior police officials and businessmen,” said SPWF president Mamata Samantaray. Though Sandhayrani’s family had urged the authorities to probe the matter and had identified the persons involved in the crime, the police and the State administration didn’t take proper steps in the issue, she said.

She also demanded stringent action against the SCB Medical authorities who did not conduct any autopsy and asked her relatives to take away the body as soon as possible from the hospital.  Arrest main culprit Prasant and give `10 lakh to the victim’s family as compensation were the other demands put before the Government.
