Women unsafe as men refuse to change mindset

PRIYANKA MOHANTY

Woman’s safety is a much-talked-about subject these days. There are many stringent laws, public forums and awareness programmes in every nook and corner of the country, but the women are yet to find them safe.

Kirti Panigrahi, a college student, says, “Cases of woman harassment during college hours are very common and people who are too much afraid of losing reputation just hesitate to reveal it and take stringent action against the offenders.”

A job holder at Bhubaneswar, Amrita Mohanty says, “last Wednesday when I was returning from work, two men followed me to my lane. I got scared and so reported to the nearest police station, but the police said if the thing gets repeated then only they would take some steps.”

It is therefore a common perception that still women are at risk. What can possibly be the reason behind all thisIJ Some would say more awakening is necessary and some would blame the Government while some would just say nothing can be done about this. The main problem with the scavenger males is that they are not ready to take it that women are now walking parallel to them or a step ahead of them in every field.

The cause of this dates back to our history where women were not allowed any social status. They were only meant for household works and satisfying bodily pleasure of men. And now when there has been women empowerment, men are too jealous to accept the truth. And to show their superiority, they want to scare women to the height of everything. This is the sole reason for all the gory things that are happening across the globe.

Why can’t men accept this and be happy about this. The male dominated society must understand that had there been no women in this world then men would never have been born. So respect them who have brought you in this world.

Nothing will change until we change our thinking and we become literate not by only getting some degrees but by having a healthy and literate mind. Thus, it’s we who need to be educated mentally to live and behave like humans and make our world a better place to live.

After all, the world where we live is also regarded as a female-Mother Earth. It’s high time we understood this. Respect women and you will be respected accordingly.
