3 handed over to cops
Setting an example for others, a large number of women on Sunday raided two places under Mancheswar and Chandrsekharpur police station limits in the capital, seized huge quantities of illegal country-made and foreign liquor and handed over three persons, including two women, to the police on the charge of selling illegal liquor.
According to sources, a women group raided the house of a woman in line-5 in Mancheswar area and ransacked her house. She was doing liquor business with the help of her two daughters in her house for the last many years.
“For the last few months, we had been persuading the woman and her daughter to stop liquor trade in residential area. We do not feel comfortable with such type of nuisance activities. Hence, we decided to raid her house,” said Rabina Eka, a SHG member who took part in the raid.
The agitating women beat up the woman and her grown up daughter and handed them over to the Mancheswar police.
In yet another case, another group of women too nabbed a youth in Chandasekharpur area and beat him up as he was selling liquor in Gadakana and nearby areas illegally.
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi sought cooperation from all stakeholders to check illegal sale of liquor in the city.
