Women must feel safe: N'pada women leaders

AJIT PANDA

Violence against women is increasing day-by-day in spite of the existence of several laws against the crime. As a result, women are not feeling safe either at home, work place or in public, viewed speakers at a district level convention on violence against women, organised recently by NGOs Ayauskam and India Hunger Project here.

While raising concerns over a spurt in domestic violence because of fast loss of human values, they said, “Unless we cherish a vision of a society in which all women live free from violence, exploitation, objectification and discrimination and work upon the vision to materialise it in an organised manner, the situation will not change.”

Most participants on the occasion were the elected women representatives (EWRs) of the district, who had arrived here from all corners of the district to share their experience of fighting injustices and express solidarity for the cause.

“The convention was meant to share and discuss the experiences of the EWRs and other women leaders who are ceaselessly fighting for the cause of women. It helped them to get strength and support” said Dr Ajit Panda, Director of Ayauskam. President and Secretary of the District level Alivaewrs Federation Jayashree Patel and Kunjalata Nayak told about the achievement of the EWR federations.
