Women destroy liquor shop in Kendrapada

PNS

Hundreds of anti-liquor women protestors of Tikhiri village in Kendrapada district on Friday took to the street with lathis and destroyed a licensed country-made liquor counter.

Failing to get justice from the district administration despite persistent pleas to close the liquor counter at the village, the protestors barged into the counter and destroyed the liquor bottles.

later, the agitated women staged a blockade on the village road.

“Since last three years we are demanding before the Excise Department, the district Collector and local MlA to take steps either for shifting the liquor shop or to close down. But the authority did not pay any heed to our demands,” said an agitated woman Sasmita Behera.

As the counter was located at the Tikhiri square, the gullible people, college students and school going girls were facing the nuisance of the alcoholic persons.

Even, on February 17, the locals submitted a memorandum before the district Collector, Kendrapada SP and the Excise Superintendent to close down the liquor shop else they would take law into their hands. But they failed to take steps to close down the shop, said the women.
