Breaking tradition, hundreds of Muslim women of Ahel Hadis community on Thursday offered special Namaj at Masjid Mohmmadi at Ranpada-Kacheri road on the occasion of Eid.
According to Nisa Ara, one of the women of Ahel Hadis community who performed special Eid prayer at the mosque, almighty has not distinguished between male and female to offer prayer. like the males, they also observed roja (fasting) for 30 days and hence, there is nothing wrong to say prayers on the Eid-ul-Fitar.
To perform the Eid prayer, special arrangements were made at the mosque. While the Muslim women performed Eid Namaj at the mosque, the male members offered their prayer at Idgah, located near the mosque.
Except the Ahel-Hadis community women, other women of the minority community offered their Eid prayers at their houses, as they were restricted to come to mosque for performing namaj.
“We do not find anything wrong in women coming to mosque and performing namaj on Eid. If women can undertake the pilgrimage to Mecca and Medina then they definitely hold the right to offer prayers at a mosque. At this point, we should not oppose the entry of women into mosques. It is a case of empowerment of women,” stated Mohmmed Sahid, Hafiz of Masjid Mohmmadi.
The minority community members, on Thursday, observed Eid-ul-Fitar with much pomp and gaiety amid tight police security. Many politicians were seen paying visit to the Muslim dominated villages and Mohallas in order to express their wishes to the Muslim residents. Hindus were also found visiting the houses of the Muslims by taking sweets.
