Various women’s organisations on Tuesday dealt a heavy blow to the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD Government, adding fuel to the ongoing agitation by the Opposition Congress in the State Assembly for last few of days over the ghastly murder of Tikiri UP School teacher Itishree Pradhan.
The women activists under the banner of the Nari Nirjyatana Birodhi Abhiyan staged a demonstration in front of the Raj Bhavan here pressing for a CBI inquiry into the burnt-to-death case of the woman teacher, besides demanding adequate compensation to the kin of the deceased. “The Naveen Patnaik Government is insensitive to atrocities against women. Starting from Pipili girl Bebina Behera murder case to the burnt-to-death of Kendrapada minor girl Sujata to the recent murder of Itishree, the Government is yet to ensure justice to them while the graph of crimes against women is shooting up.
Instead of taking concrete measures to check the violence against women, the Government is trying to suppress such issues by announcing huge compensations to the victims,” said State Progressive Women Forum secretary Mamata Samantray. Women rights activist Pramila Swain said all those involved in the Itishree case must be booked.
