Holding the agitating Utkal University students responsible for the death of Suman Sharma, who died inside her car during a road blockade at Vani Vihar Square on Saturday evening, a relative of the deceased on Sunday lodged an FIR at the Saheed Nagar police station demanding a thorough probe into the incident.

Mukesh Kumar, cousin of the deceased, alleged that her sister’s death occurred due to the mob violence.

Describing the details of the event, Kumar held the Utkal University students responsible who, he said, in large numbers rushed to her vehicle bearing registration number OD 02D 1039. Following this, she tried to take a U-turn, but the ignition of the vehicle snapped and the mob proceeded close to her.

“I strongly suspect that the cause of her death was mob violence. I request the Commissionerate Police to book the culprits and give justice to her family members,” Mukesh said.

“We will take action after examining the CCTV footage,” Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi said.

On Sunday morning, deceased’s husband Vinod Kumar, father Vakil

Sharma and mother reached the Capital Hospital and held the students of the university responsible for the unfortunate incident and demanded arrest of those responsible for it.

The deceased, Suman Sharma (29), hailed from Chaindas in Chhattisgarh and was running a software training centre in the city. Besides, she was also running two gents and ladies hostels.
