In a bizarre incident, a woman in Kendrapada district was tied up to a tree and beaten up by villagers for no fault of hers.
Sabitri Rout, a resident of Kankadia village under Rajnagar block, was meted out the inhuman treatment by her neighbour as her cattle strayed into the latter’s garden on Sunday.
According to reports, Sabitri was dragged out of her house by the neighbour and the latter’s son and tied up to the tree and beaten up mercilessly. She was tortured for around three hours during heat of the summer day.
“My neighbour Sanjulata Jena abused me after my cattle strayed into her premises. I was tied up to a tree and beaten up by her and her son. One of my family members sighted me and informed villagers. My son approached the police and lodged a complaint against Sanjulata; and later, I was rescued,” said Sabitri, wife of Birakishore Rout. A case has been registered and the probe is underway following the complaint by the victim’s family. However, no arrest has been made so far. Investigation is in progress, said Rajnagar PS IIC Sukant Kumar Patra.
