The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday arrested a woman and her son on the charge of running a sex racket at a residential house located in the BJB Nagar area under the Badagada police limits here. The police also rescued a 19-year-old Bengali girl during a raid on the house.
According to reports, three persons, including a 60-year-old woman Janakilata Bhuyan and her 42-year-old son Manoranjan Bhuyan, had been running the sex racket from an isolated house during last three months. Police have started a search operation to nab the kingpin of the racket Gopi Padhi, who is on the run.
On a tipoff, the laxmisagar IIC and other police staff under the active supervision of zonal ACP Akshay Mishra conducted the raid on the residence of Janakilata and arrested her and her son but failed to nab Padhi as he fled from the spot. The arrested persons would be forwarded to a local court on Wednesday, the zonal ACP said.
