A woman was seriously injured when she was shot at by a person over sorcery suspicion at Talakbadi village under the Bisoi police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Sunday night. The victim Maeen Hembram (42) was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital here.
According to reports, a 17-year-old son of Maeen’s brother-in-law Thalkhan Hembram had died a year ago and the boy’s father was suspecting that witchcraft practised by the woman was responsible his death. A dispute was prevailing between Maeen and Thalkhan over the matter.
On Sunday night, Rupai Majhi, a relative of Thalkhan, opened fire at Maeen when she was sleeping. Maeen sustained bullet injuries in her head and was rescued by her family members who rushed her to the hospital. Her family members also nabbed Rupai.
Police have started investigation into the incident and detained Rupai for questioning.
