PNS

The police arrested a youth on Wednesday allegedly for torturing his wife for dowry and forcing her to commit suicide.

The wife of the arrested youth who had set herself on fire on Tuesday is reportedly very critical and the authorities of Ispat General Hospital(IGH) asked her parents to take her to some better hospital as her health condition was extremely critical.

Sources said one Padmini Sa (22), a resident of lodimang village under Dharuahdih police station of Sundargarh, had married to Parameswar Sa (28) , a resident under Kutra police station of Sundargarh about eight months ago.

As per the FIR lodged in Dharuadih police station by Padmini’s brother on Tuesday, after some days of marriage, Parmeswar and his sister-in-law (elder brother’s wife) had started torturing her for dowry and she was being regularly tortured in her in-laws’ house. When Padmini could not tolerate the torture, she went to her parents’ house on Monday.

Since she was under mental stress, on Tuesday morning, when nobody were present in her parents’ house, Padmini poured kerosene on herself and set her on fire. When the neighbourers heard the screaming of Padmini, they rescued her in critical condition but by that time, about 80 per cent of her body had been burnt. Her family members immediately took her to Sundargarh hospital but doctors there referred her to the IGH.

On Wednesday, the police arrested Parameswar. Police are further investigating about the torture of Parameswar’s sister-in-law on Padimini.
