City-based woman activist Chandana Swain, in a complaint to Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh on Friday, demanded stringent action against the Mancheswar police station Inspector and his staff for allegedly assaulting her on Wednesday.
According to reports, Swain and her husband Bibhuti Bhusan Rout of Sabarsahi in Rasulgarh area under the Mancheswar police limits are running an orphanage at Kimbhiria Basti near Pandhra under the same police station for last five years. On Wednesday morning, Swain said, when they were covering the orphanage house with asbestos, Mancheswar police station IIC Bharat Sahoo and his staff suddenly reached there and demolished the house. When she tried to protest, the police pushed her, as a result of which she dashed against a brick wall.
She alleged that the police not only assaulted but also abused her with filthy languages. The cops then took away her husband after thrashing him.“In the absence of woman police, the male staff of the police station assaulted me which is a serious offence,” said Swain, adding, “This type of behaviour of the police should be condemned and the cops should be punished.”
When contacted, Mancheswar police station IIC denied the allegation and said they had gone to the orphanage to demolish the illegal structure made by the couple on a land allotted for a police outpost.
