Babita Munda, Sarpanch of Kalapathar GP under Sonepur Block in Subarnapur district was arrested by Vigilance police on Thursday for demanding and accepting bribe of `5,000 from one Surubabu Bhoi of village Sardhapali for approval of an Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) house in his favour.
Bhoi had alleged that he was selected in the Palli Sabha and Gram Sabha during 2013-14 for allotment of a house under the IAY. He met Sarpanch Munda for approval for this purpose. But the sarpanch demanded bribe of Rs10,000 for allotment of house. When he expressed his inability to pay such a huge amount, Munda reduced the amount to `5,000. A trap was laid and Munda was caught red-handed by Vigilance officers while accepting the bribe.
