A young woman was allegedly gangraped by three youths in a forest at Hatiada village in Lathikata of Sundargarh district on October 29.
The incident came to the fore after family members of the victim lodged a complaint with the Kuarmunda police on Thursday morning.
Acting on the complaint, police detained three persons and after grilling them in this connection, arrested them.
As per the complaint, the victim had called up a male friend to meet her in a forest near Hatiada on the fateful day. But the youth hatched a conspiracy with his two friends to outrage the modesty of the woman.
When she along with her female friend reached the spot, the trio attempted to rape them. While her friend managed to escape from the spot, the miscreants raped the young woman before fleeing the spot.
Somehow the victim managed to return home on Wednesday morning and informed about the incident to her family.
