When the heartrending incident of a Puri woman poisoning self and her two sons still fresh in mind, another such incident occurred in Nabarangpur on Tuesday where a mother committed suicide afterpoisoning her three children.
According to information, the woman of Dangariguda village under Koshagumuda block poisoned her three minor children, including a son, before attempting suicide by consuming some toxic substance.
Elders of the family spotted blaze coming out of the house following which they rushed inside to find the woman and her children in an unconscious state at around 2 pm.
They soon rushed the four to Koshagumuda Community Health Centre (CHC) where doctors declared the three children, all below 10 years of age, dead on arrival. While hospital officials called for a 108 Ambulance to shift the woman to the DHH here, she succumbed before the ambulance reached the CHC.
The Koshagumuda police have registered a case and started investigation.
“The woman consumed poison after poisoning her children. The reason behind taking such an extreme step is yet to be ascertained. We are investigating into the matter,” said IIC Saroj Kumar Upadhyay.
Sources said the woman’s husband works as a mason in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. He visits his family in frequent intervals and had arrived at his village on Tuesday.
