Tension prevailed for a few hours at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here on Friday after the death of a woman allegedly due to use of an expired insulin injection.Victim Gyan Kaur (60) was the sister of former Kantabanji Congress MlA Santosh Singh Saluja. She had been admitted in the DHH by her sister Sarita for treatment of diabetes and other allied problems. When her health condition worsened, doctors referred her to the Burla hospital after advising nurses to conduct ECG on her and administer an insulin injection first.
While the ECG report did not show any heart problem, a nurse administered insulin on her as per doctor’s advice. But Sarita soon complained to the nurse that the insulin injected was outdated. Then the nurse threw the bottle of the insulin outside. By this time, Kaur’s condition worsened further and she breathed her last, alleged Sarita.
Saddened Sarita got infuriated soon and threw some medicines here and there in the nurse’s cabin. Others present there soon protested alleging that Kaur died to negligence of hospital staff. The body was kept in the hospital till 10.30 pm in protest. However, CDMO Damayanti Sahoo refuted the charge and said the insulin was not at all outdated. It was confirmed after the post-mortem conducted on the body before being handed over to their relatives, she said.
