A newly-married woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her bedroom at GGP Colony under the Mancheswar police station in the capital city on Sunday. She was identified as Prajna Paramita Swain.
Prajna had married one Prashant Patra of the Patia area on June 8, 2022. Days after her marriage, her in-laws suspected her of having cancer and drove her out of the home, in the fear of incurring huge expenses for her treatment.
Unable to bear the trauma, Prajna committed suicide, her family members alleged.
“Her in-laws used to torture her and drove out from their house accusing her of suffering from cancer. But we got her treated at a private hospital in the city by spending only Rs 12,000. The doctors there said that she didn’t have any kind of cancer,” said the deceased’s brother.
Meanwhile, Prajna’s brother filed a written complaint at the Mancheswar police station.
