Once again, the district headquarters hospital here has courted a controversy owing to the death of a patient for alleged negligence in treatment by a doctor.

According to sources, palpable tension prevailed in the hospital premises on Saturday following a 30 -year-old pregnant woman, Samsun Biwi, wife of Kuttabuddhin Khan, a resident of Dobanda, died on Saturday afternoon. She had been admitted following abdominal pain.

Her relatives alleged that the doctors neglected in treating the victim, causing her demise.

According to Tabasum Biwi, mother-in-law of Samsun, gynaecologist Biranjan Swain after prescribing some saline and injection left the hospital the day Samsun was admitted. However, that did not relieve Samsun of pain. Soon, the nurse was contacted and in turn the nurse contacted the doctor. But the latter did not turn up to the hospital as the victim’s kin could not pay some bribe. The next morning, the doctor came to the ward and without thoroughly examining the patient, just recommended to continue the old medicines. This led to deterioration of the health condition of the victim who died within some time.

Soon several relatives and locals reached the hospital, created uproar and demanded action against the doctor for negligence. ADMO lN Rath, after getting information came to the spot and managed to pacify the people assuring that a departmental inquiry on the matter would be conducted and the guilty would be prosecuted as per law.

The patient was six months’ pregnant and she died after she suffered amniotic fluid embolism disease, said Rath, adding that every possible treatment had been provided to the patient.
