lightning wreaked havoc on Monday as two persons were killed while seven others were injured by the calamity at different places of the State.
In the first incident, two persons of a family were killed while two others were injured when lightning struck a country boat at Jamboo village in Kendrapada district. Sources said woman and her daughter were killed when lightning struck them while they had gone fishing on a boat.
The woman’s grandson and another relative were also injured in the incident. The injured were rushed to the Mahakalpada hospital and their condition is stated to be stable, said sources.
Similarly, two residents of Pentha village under Marshaghai block in the district were critically injured by a lightning strike while they sitting in the verandah of their house. They were rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Similarly, in another incident, three persons of a family were injured when lightning struck their house at Bibhutipur village under Kakatpur block of Puri district today.
The injured, identified as Kailash Sahu, his wife and daughter, were rushed to the Kakatpur Community Health Centre and later shifted to the Charichhak Community Health centre. According to sources, the lightning strike was so powerful that it damaged the roof of the house.
