In a major twist in the case of a woman, Chinmayee Sahoo, being burnt alive at Samatarapur village under Tirtol block three days ago, the deceased’s relatives on Friday lodged an FIR against the in-laws and her husband.
Chinmayee’s father Khirod Prasad Sahoo alleged that his daughter was killed by her in -laws family for dowry and for the last four years she was tortured for the same. He further said four years ago Chinmayee had married Umakanta Sahoo of Samantrapur village according to Hindu rituals and the bride had been given dowry as fixed during the pre-marriage negotiation.
Soon after marriage, Umakanta’s family had demanded more dowries from Chimayee’s parents but they were unable to fulfil the demands. As a result she was allegedly tortured both mentally and physically by the in- laws and husband.
local gentlemen and both the families had sat together a number of times and resolved the case. But later, on December 14 she was burnt alive by her greedy in- laws, the deceased’s father Khirod stated in the FIR.
Meanwhile, two persons who had sustained severe burn injuries in the incident have been rushed to SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack in a critical condition. The police have started an investigation into the case.
