Woman brings dowry case against 'impotent' hubby

PNS

Failing to get justice from the police administration, 31-year-old Shikha Das, who has filed a case against her ‘impotent’ h usband and in-laws at the Mahila police station for alleged dowry harassment on November 25 this year, on Monday sought media intervention for arrest of herin-laws at the earliest.

Shikha married Bijayananda Mohanty, a software consultant and a resident of flat number 208, Jayadev Tower near Jayadev Vihar under Nayapalli police station on June 2, 2013 in accordance with Hindu rituals. She alleged that her in-laws started harassing her just a few days after the marriage.

“During our marriage neither I nor my parents were aware about my husband’s impotency and inability to keep physical relationship with me. He, instead, along with in-laws tortured me physically and mentally for more dowries,” said Shikha at a Press conference here.

She alleged, “My mother-in-law Basanti Mohanty, father-in-law Bishnu Charan Mohanty, elder brother-in-law Dolgobinda Mohanty, sister-in-law Jyoti Pattnayak started harassing me demanding Rs5 lakh and a Swift car just 15 days after my marriage.” During the marriage, nearly 420 gm gold ornaments worth Rs15 lakh, furniture worth Rs3 lakh along with other belongings were given which did not satisfy the greed of the in-laws, she said.

She said, “On September 10, I went to Pune, the working place of my husband where he also started torturing me forcing me to inform my father who later brought me back from Pune.”

“Though I registered a case against them at the Mahila police station on November 22, they registered it on November 25. Since then, the accused are absconding in the eye of the police forcing us to suspect the dubious role of the police,” said Shikha.

“Though my husband is impotent, I was ready to accept him for the sake of society. When the harassment crossed all limits, I was forced to register a complaint,” she said.
