After a month-long operation, the Commissionerate Police on Saturday succeeded in cracking the sensational murder of a doctor couple at Sailashree Vihar in the city by arresting three persons, including a woman.
The Special Squad of the police late on Friday night raided a dhaba at Gopalpur in Ganjam district and arrested Kishor Behera alias Timpa (44), the prime accused in the murder case. The police too nabbed two others Md Kamal Khan alias Muna (22) and his wife Phulsari Behera alias Nini (36) from the Tangi Choudwar area. Muna is the second husband of Nini.
Police seized cash of Rs2,100, six gold bangles and three mobile phones from the possession of the arrested persons.
However, two other accused persons, the doctor couple’s maid Tikina and her husband Jaban, are still at large.
According to Commissioner of Police Dr RP Sharma, Tikina, who was working as a maid at the house of deceased Dr Prafulla Mishra and his wife Dr Susama Mishra, had made the loot plan. So, she took help of her husband Jaban, his distant relative Kishor, Nini and her husband Muna.
At least 15 cases are pending against Kishor Behera at different police stations.
“As per the plan, Tikina had introduced Nini to the doctor couple on November 11 saying that Nini would work in the house, to which Dr Susama Mishra agreed. later on November 13 and 14, Tikina along with Nini came to the doctor couple’s house and took note of the activities of the couple and set November 15 for loot of properties,” said Sharma.
At around 5 am, the five accused reached near the deceased’s house on foot after getting down from an auto-rickshaw at Sailashree Vihar Square. They all had taken nitrate tablets.
“When they reached, Dr Susama Mishra had gone to the nearby Jagannath temple while the main gate of the house was locked. When the lady doctor returned, Tikina and Nini went inside the house. Nini had taken a knife (Chapad) with her. later, the duo called Kishor, Muna and Jaban, who were waiting outside the house.
Tikina and Timpa first attacked Susama in the kitchen while she was preparing food. She became senseless. Hearing her screaming, Dr Prafulla Mishra woke up and tried to rush to the spot, but Muna, Nini and Jaban beat him. Muna tied Prafulla’s leg,” said Sharma, adding that Timpa and Tikina attacked Susama’s head with the Chapad while the others strangulated Prafulla to death.
Prima facie investigation revealed that loot was the main motive behind the crime.
After committing the crime, the accused had gone to Hyderabad and Tamil Nadu for a period.
