A woman on Thursday accused Kandhamal district’s Chakapada Block Development Officer (BDO) Sanat Kumar Nayak of reneging his commitment to marry her after an affair that had lasted three years. The woman, a Government employee posted in Mayurbhanj district, in her complaint lodged with the State Commission for Women (SCW) and Kandhamal SP KV Singh, alleged that Nayak sexually exploited her for years on the promise of marriage. When she begged for marriage, the woman said, Nayak tried to wriggle out of the relationship and marry someone else.
She also claimed they had already married in a temple and even showed photographs in support of her claim. After hearing that Nayak was about to marry someone else, the woman came to Phulbani and met the SP with her woes on Wednesday. The SP sounded out the counsellors of the Women Support Centre and called both of them for counselling in a bid to find a solution to the problem. But midway through the session, the BDO left the room in a huff.
Suddenly, the woman came out of the room and blocked the BDO’s car in order to stop him. She fainted there, but the BDO left the spot in a hurry. The SP said he had ordered an inquiry into the issue and would take appropriate action after getting the report. Meanwhile, the BDO denied the allegations made by the woman. “It’s a lie. Everything will be proven at court. I will say whatever I have in the court,” he said.
