Uncertainty looms large over the functioning of a Government medical college and hospital (MCH) in Baleswar from the next academic session as all is not well.
A three-member team Medical Council of India (MCI), while currently on visit to inspect the preparedness, was reportedly not very much satisfied with the kind of progress made by the district administration.
The team besides visiting the medical college construction site at Remuna too inspected various wards of the District Headquarters Hospital. The team while was tightlipped on their observations either with the district authorities or with the scribes, yet sources said they were not happy with the kind of arrangements made so far.
The constructions while still under progress, they expressed displeasure over running of orthopedic, surgery and gynecology from one complex.
CDMO Bibekananda Das said, “Many more things left to be completed on the fronts of infrastructure. The conversation of the existing building to multi storey ones to accommodate various departments as per guidelines is yet to be completed. The required faculty members are not posted.” Sources said the medical college establishment is yet to be handed over by the private construction company to the Works Department.
District Collector Pramod Das, on the other hand, expressing optimism, said,“ The work is going on war footing .The major requirements are complied .The college ,ICU and OPD are ready.”
“This is first visit of the central team and more would be in coming days. By that time, we would be fully ready . We are optimistic, the admission in the college would commence from the coming academic session,” Das said . “The authorities didn’t show a serious approach. Just before a few days of the visit of the team, they geared up to make things ready. Overnight cutting of trees, cleaning of wards, roads and drains of the DHH were undertaken. The construction part is far from the completion. It is a matter of serious concern whether the college could commence as per the schedule from the next year,” rued a senior citizen.
