A 47-year- old widow was kidnapped and gangraped near the Ramchandi temple at Ramnagar under the Jamboo Marine police station on Friday night.
Marshaghai police station IIC Kalandi Behera said the victim ofRajarajeswarpur village under Gupti panchayat of Rajanagar block wasworking as a sweeper in a Chandikhol -based private hospital. She hadvisited her son-in-law’s rented house at Badapal Bazaar.
The victim was allegedly having extramarital affairs with one Ghanashyam Behera. To avenge on the victim, Behera’s wife engineered the plot of the crime.
Kendrapada SDPO Rajib Lochan Panda said Nirupama Behera, wife of Ghanashyam, with the help of six others, including two of her brothers, on Friday night barged into the rented house of Susant Mandal, the son-in-law of the victim. Later, the six persons, at the behest of Nirupama, allegedly went on assaulting the widow and her son-in-law Susanta. Then they forcibly lifted the victim, her son-in-law, and Ghanashayma (who was also present) in a Bolero jeep and gang-raped her.
Susant lodged an FIR at the Marshaghai police station in this regard and the police registered a case.
The victim was sent for medical examination and the accused were detained for interrogation.
