A woman migrant labourer of Boerbhadi village under Nuapada block has lodged an FIR at the Jonk police station on April 4 against a labourer contractor for cheating, harassment and negligence which resulted in the death of her husband in a brick kiln of UP.

Sundarbati Naik has alleged that one local labour sardar Ratan lohar had handed over the family consisting of seven members including five girl children to one Jagat Gupta, a contractor of Temri village of Chhattisgarh. They were taken to a brick kiln in Ramjagir of Ambedkar Nagar, UP, on January 5.

"My husband fell sick there, but he was not taken to hospital. Instead of providing him treatment, the employer forced him to work continuously," stated Sundarbati. She has alleged that the kiln owner did not allow her to take the body to her village for rituals. She was allowed to return to her village only after some of her relatives arrived there and convinced the owner to leave her. She has also alleged that lohar and Gupta detained her and her children for five hours after they reached Raipur and threatened her not to lodge any police case.

In another case, 15 migrant labourers including eight children of Phulchi village of Sinapali block in Nuapada district have been rescued from a brick kiln in Rama Reddy district under Thukuguda PS of Andhra Pradesh at the initiatives of Nuapada SP Parmar Smit and the District Press Club of Nuapada.

Three labourers, who fled from the kiln a few days ago, had reported about detention of these labourers in the kiln to the Press Club.

The Press Club on March 3 had drawn attention of the SP about the detention and he immediately acted for their rescue.
